2009 saw the inaugural Year 9 Special Interest Netball Class at Golden Grove High School. It was developed due to the growing popularity of the sport in the local community.

In 2017 the program has been extended to a combined Year 10/11 Stage 1 course as well.

Both courses involve an intensive 14 week Netball program during practical lessons with a modified Physical Education program taking place in the remaining 5 weeks of the semester. The theory component of the course will contain Australian Curriculum and SACE required content.

Whilst completing the Netball section of the course, the class participates in developmental sessions to improve their skills and knowledge of the game. Fitness is also an important focus. Year 9 focus is on Junior Developmental Skills, Year 10/11 focus is on Intermediate Developmental Skills.

All participants in the YEAR 9 course will also complete the “Three” umpiring course run by Netball SA and are encouraged to go on to the Level 1 umpiring course. Through this experience we encourage all students to become actively involved in umpiring in the community and through the school sport program at Golden Grove High School.

All participants in the STAGE 1 YEAR 10/11 program will be involved in an umpiring update course and will be encouraged to complete a Foundation Coaching Course through Netball SA. Students will be encouraged to involve themselves in community and school sports programs in both umpiring and coaching.
