Health Studies is offered as a SACE Stage 1 and Stage 2 subject. It is a popular choice with students as they get to explore a variety of topics about their own personal health as well as community health issues. Students work in groups as well as individually, studying topics such as sleep, diet and exercise, personal health and lifestyle choices and disease. Students also examine issues within society that can affect community health such as the impacts of racism and homophobia.
Students studying Stage 2 Health will also gain a First Aid Certificate and participate in Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Health Promotion Investigations and Presentations. Students organise and run fundraisers, raising awareness and educating the community about various health issues.
Health Studies is a subject that offers students the opportunity to develop valuable life skills but also essential knowledge for future Health/Science careers.
