Outdoor Education is a popular Stage 1 and Stage 2 subject choice. Students experience a range of outdoor activities which develop skills that are transferrable to expeditions and day trips. The course has a strong emphasis on skilled-based learning, combining theory to practical scenarios.
Students will cover theory topics such as First Aid, Navigation and Map Skills, Expedition Skills (tenting, menu selection, camp cooking) and Environmental Studies.
Practical topics:
Year 11: Students can undertake OED for one semester or for a full year
Semester One – Surfing (Southport) and Bushwalking (Kuitpo Forest)
Semester Two – Rock Climbing (indoor gym and Morialta) and Canoeing (Ral Ral Creek – Riverland)
Year 12: Students will have the opportunity to participate in Kayaking (Riverland), Bushwalking (Mt Crawford) and a self-reliant expedition (choice of Kayaking or Bushwalking)
