Pathways/Course Counselling

Choosing a pathway and a set of subjects is exciting, however it can be a little daunting. Don’t be worried, that’s what we are here for. We will work closely with you to ensure you have a deep understanding of the course counselling process before final subject choices are madePlease make sure you ask lots of questions, read all of the material carefully and seek support when you need it. Our goal is for students to choose a set of subjects they know they will enjoy and are passionate about and are likely to lead to a worthwhile future beyond school.

Over a three-weekperiod, students will engage in a series of activities during Program ID lessons and a dedicated year level assembly to research possible pathways beyond school, identify the subjects necessaryfor successful entry to the pathways and understand the curriculum pattern required for their next year level. This will include a full explanation of the requirements of SACE for students heading into the senior school (Year 10 and beyond).

Being a large secondary school Golden Grove offers students a wide range of subject choice. For a full description of the possible subject offerings please access the respective year level Curriculum Handbooks available on the school website.

Golden Grove High is a member of the Golden Grove Secondary School Campus – a consortium of three schools, public and private. Our partners are Gleeson College and Pedare Christian College. Whilst each school is independent of the others, we all access the Campus “Shared Facilities” and collaborate to offer students in Year 11 and Year 12 access to broader range of SACE subjects than is offered at the ‘home’ schoolFor example, if a Golden Grove student wishes to pursue a subject not offered here, they may be able to access the subject at Gleeson or Pedare(for no additional fee).

Vocational Education and Training has undergone many changes in the last 12 months and the new VET Handbook contains all the information you need to know. VET is offered both onsite and externally for certificate courses in Year 11 and Year 12.  Golden Grove partners with the North Eastern Vocational Opportunities (NEVO) group, One+ and external RTO’s to deliver a wide variety of full certificate courses as well as taster and stackable VET opportunities.

If at any time you are unsure or have a question about this process, please reach out to either your child’s home group teacher or Sub School Leader. If they cannot answer your question directly, they will put you in contact with the person who can.

All the best for a successful pathway planning / subject selection experience.
