Years 8 and 9 form our middle school. We aspire to give every student opportunities to maximise their potential for success. Achieving this goal requires a partnership between the school, the parents, the learner and the wider community.

As a Middle School Community we value:

  • responsibility and self-discipline
  • community responsibility, trusting and respectful relationships
  • recognition of a range of achievements
  • equality of opportunities to achieve the same learning outcomes
  • diversity and inclusivity
  • personal growth towards independence
  • creative learning and flexible teaching styles

Middle Schooling at Golden Grove High School will demonstrate these values by:

  • focusing on each student and his or her specific learning needs
  • creating and maintaining a safe and productive learning environment
  • acknowledging and celebrating achievements as part of a culture of success
  • providing opportunities for students to be active participants in negotiating their own learning
  • recognising and practising collaboration
  • embracing innovative middle school methodologies
  • providing an integrated, relevant, student–centered curriculum which challenges student learning
  • integrating current I.C.T. across the curriculum
  • acknowledging the need and plan for a diverse range of student learning styles
  • involving students in negotiating their learning
  • using current curriculum policy to determine learning outcomes, evaluation and reporting processes

Transition to Secondary School

To support the smooth transition of students coming to our school the leadership team works closely with our cluster local primary schools. We have a Year 7 to Year 8 transition plan. We plan a program of orientation that suits the needs of the Year 7 students. This includes visits to primary schools by teachers and all students enrolled for Year 8 attend an Orientation Day. This gives students an opportunity to meet teachers, familiarise themselves with the school and ask questions about how things operate.

The curriculum offered in the middle school is based on the learning areas identified in the Australian Curriculum:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Sciences
  • Humanities
  • The Arts
  • Languages
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Design and Technologies

The Curriculum Handbooks outline the Middle School subjects and educational pathways on offer to Year 8 and Year 9 students.
