On Wednesday 20th May 2015 35 visitors from all over Australia – debaters, coaches and adjudicators – visited Golden Grove High School, when we hosted two great debates in the National Schools' Debating Championship. ANZAC DAY ASSEMBLY – Commemorating 100 Years
For the 100 Year Anniversary of the Gallipoli Landing, our Campus held a combined Assembly on the Gleeson Oval on 7 May 2015, with over 3000 students and more than 300 staff to commemorate the event. Representatives from the Australian Defence Force once again offered their valued support by providing a Guest Speaker, WOD Michael Keefe, also a father to two of our students, as well as a Catafalque Party and Bugle player. Our proceedings were flanked by Cadets enrolled at the Campus schools, some of whom had a speaking part within the Assembly. Invited dignitaries were also in attendance. The event was kicked off with a fly-past by an AP3 Orion at 10:50am. In a performance of an original song by representative singers from each School on Campus, Campus students acknowledged the… Read more
Changes to Graduated Licensing Scheme
GGHS selected as the only public school to represent SA at the National Evatt UN Diplomacy Competition Great news! On Wednesday our Year 12 students, Liam Hayes and Tom Simcic, competed against 14 other teams in the Evatt SA Diplomacy Competition run by United Nations Youth at the Adelaide Town Hall. They performed so well that they have been selected to represent SA, along with the teams from Seymour College and Prince Alfred College, at the National Evatt Diplomacy Competition 2014. Liam and Tom have been attending EXCEL events with UN Youth for two years now, since they were in Year 10, so their years of commitment to extending their global education have paid off! The National Competition just happens to be in Adelaide this year. Good luck… Read more
KESAB Award
KESAB has worked closely with education sites across Tea Tree Gully Council through our incursion and excursion opportunities and linking with NRM and Wipe Out Waste programs. In particular, Golden Grove High School has introduced 17 bin banks across the campus and is successfully collecting clean drink containers and removing food from the waste bin to a bin for food collection. A recent bin materials audit showed that they have improved their diversion from landfill by 33% which is a great result. A separate audit of their paper stream identified opportunities to reduce their paper usage and this will be part of their Site Environmental Management Plan (SEMP) into the future. The school is a model for others in the region and has hosted professional development training and sharingRead more
